Black wood-fired kyusu #3

$200.00
Though kyusu simply means "tea pot" in Japanese, in the west the word is often used to refer specifically to yokode kyūsu- side handled tea pots that allow for easy pouring without touching the hot surface of the pot. This 140ml tea pot features a clay mesh strainer inside to filter the tea leaves from the liquor when pouring.

Wood-firing is a time and labor-intensive process that takes days and sometimes weeks to complete. The results vary greatly and many pieces do not survive the firing process. However, the pots that make the cut invariably feature dynamic coloration from the fire and ash that coats the unglazed surface. Wood-fired pieces should be handled with care and only washed with warm water to allow a patina to develop and season the interior clay surface.

Thrown on the wheel and fired to ~2350°F/1300°C in a wood-burning kiln.

All pieces are handmade in Chicago IL by Dani Fogarty.
